Has Simpsons Episode Predicted Coronavirus?
This is not the first time when fans came up with claims showing Simpsons predicted a disease outbreak. In 2015 after Ebola outbreak also they said a Simpsons episode predicted it back in 1997. The episode was however just about some pop culture humor and not a prediction as such.
Coming back to the story in question, a short video clip from the alleged Simpsons episode is also doing rounds online. It shows an infected factory worker coughing into a package sent to the United States before the disease spreads to others.
As a matter of fact, the short clip comes from the fourth season Simpsons episode “Marge in Chains”, when a news report announces fears of the ‘Osaka Flu’ from Japan hitting Springfield in America. The infected person is rather a Japanese factory worker and the disease spread is Osaka flu, not Coronavirus. One of the images accompanying the story in question is in fact Photoshopped mentioning Coronavirus.

On the other hand, The Simpsons is an animated TV series about the family dealing with various comical situations and ups and downs of life. So, the aforementioned stories claiming to show a Simpsons episode in 1993 predicted the Coronavirus outbreak is not true – it was relating to Osaka flu from Japan.

In this case, it was not The Simpsons, but the Legends of Chamberlain Heights, an animation TV comedy series which showed a related episode of Kobe in a helicopter crash.

After his unfortunate death in helicopter crash, the Legends of Chamberlain Heights removed the clip from their 2015 episode. They in fact did it out of respect for Kobe and his family. One of the creators of the episode, Josiah Johnson also expressed his apologies for featuring Kobe in such a way.
