An amazing video is in heavy circulation online alleging to show an 880 KM Unbelievable Highway now open between China & Pakistan. Accompanying messages also claim the highway is built within a record period of just 36 months. No, the claims are not true.

Not Highway Between China and Pakistan

The video is circulating through various social media posts on Facebook and Twitter, garnering millions of views with the claims. Parts from the three-and-half minutes video are also circulating on YouTube like here and here. The video is indeed amazing and shows a high-tech, elevated bridge built across various terrains like mountains, snow and rivers. However, it is not any 880 KM new Highway China opened now to connect with Pakistan.

A Chinese Facebook page Travel boutique shared the same video in November 2018 with actual description – it is Yaxi Highway (Expressway) in China. China Xinhua News also shared a clipping of the video on Twitter, describing the stunning aerial view of Yaxi Expressway as an Engineering marvel.

Yaxi Expressway in Sichuan province of China is spread over 240-kilometer (149-mile) – it has ‘ladder like’ road that gradually goes high. Chinese central government started the Yaxi Expressway project in 2007 and opened it to motorists in April 2012. The amazing expressway is made up of 270 viaducts and 25 tunnels.

Another, Friendship Highway

On the other hand, there’s a China-Pakistan Friendship Highway – over 1,200 kilometers long – called the Karakoram Highway or National Highway N–35. The highway connects the Pakistani provinces of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa plus Gilgit-Baltistan with China’s Xinjiang Uyghur autonomous region. It is also a part of the Asian Highway AH4 and a popular tourist attraction. Karakoram Highway is often called the ‘Eighth Wonder of the World’ because of its high elevation and the difficult conditions in which it was constructed. It took 20 years for both the governments to build the China-Pakistan Friendship Highway from 1959 to 1979.

So, the video of an old Expressway in China is shared as a new highway between China and Pakistan.
